Picture Re-framing
Do you have an old picture or painting hanging on your wall that is looking a little tired and in need of a new lease of life?
Do you have a picture frame that has become home to small insects and airborne dust particles?
Do you have a picture or painting hiding in your loft or spare room that you are embarrassed to hang on your wall because the frame is damaged? Or perhaps it's in a frame that doesn't match your décor?
Do you have a picture you no longer want but would like to sell or give as a gift to friends or family?
If the answer to any of these questions is "yes" then why not have it re-framed at 'In a Frame'?
Here are a couple of examples of poorly framed artwork brought into us for re-framing.
Example One
The frame on the left is infested with 'thunder bugs' and is held together with masking tape. The one on the right is collecting dust and hairs due to poor sealing. Both of these frames were brought into our workshop recently and the artworks have been reframed using quality materials to reduce the risk of future damage.
Example Two
Artwork should be distanced from the glazing by either a good quality mountboard or the use of a spacer around the frame rebate. If the artwork comes into contact with the glazing, serious damage can be caused through a build up of condensation as a result of the natural changes in air humidity. A gap between glazing and painting enables the flow of air, allowing the artwork to 'breathe'. Poor quality glazing can contribute to the damage through lack of UV protection.
The following painting was brought into our workshop for repair and re-framing.
An impression of the entire painting can be seen on this piece of glass removed from a frame where the painting had been in direct contact with the glass |
The extent of the damage to the painting once removed from the frame can be seen here. Compare the image to the impression made on the glass on the left! |
In close up, the damage to the painting can be seen clearly

After restoration, the painting was mounted under a conservation quality mountboard, glazed with UV protection glazing and framed in a wooden frame that complemented the artwork. |
