Picture Framing Courses
Comprehensive one to one training is available from our workshop in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire on the borders of Hertfordshire and Essex. All training is provided personally by Richard Williams who is a professionally trained Guild Commended Framer and fully accredited picture framing trainer. Our courses are fully accredited by the Fine Art Trade Guild, the governing body of the art and framing industry.
The content of our courses can be flexible to meet individual needs which should be discussed with Richard prior to attending. This enables us to adapt courses to suit each trainee as we recognise that levels of knowledge and pace of learning can vary considerably from one person to another.
One to one training has many benefits over group training. Participants will have Richard's undivided attention enabling them to learn exactly what they want to know at their own speed. If something doesn't quite go according to plan at the first attempt then we can try it again without affecting other participants. Also, there is no risk of embarrassment when asking that 'silly' question! Some people find group training a daunting experience but our one to one training courses are conducted in a friendly and informal manner. Although structured with your needs in mind there are no strict timetables or schedules to keep to. Learn at your own pace in a quiet rural location in a relaxed atmosphere.
If you have a frame training need that is not covered by one of our courses below, please contact Richard as we are always keen to assist where we can. Click here to view our latest course feedback results. (Opens in a new window).

Introduction to Picture Framing Course
A two day course designed to provide a good overall grounding in how to create a picture frame. It is ideal for individuals wishing to learn how to frame at a professional level and is perfect for those considering a career in picture framing, whether that be as a self-employed framer or as an employee.
The course includes cutting a window mount, cutting glass, mitre-cutting and joining the frame as well as aesthetic considerations such as mount colour and choice of frame. Important health and safety aspects of working in a framing workshop will also be covered. If required, Richard will also be pleased to provide guidance in setting up a framing business including topics such as purchasing equipment, advertising, stock control and pricing. Course content can be adapted to meet your specific requirements.
The length of the course can be extended to include other aspects of framing including decorative mounts, canvas stretching, textile framing and object framing.
Please contact Richard for an informal chat without obligation.
GCF Revision Course
If you are a picture framer looking to take the Guild Commended Framer examination, this one day course will put you through your paces to prepare you for the day.
You will need to bring with you the required pieces of your own framed work as set out in the current Study Guide produced by the Fine Art Trade Guild. Please be aware that these pieces will be disassembled for inspection.
The course will involve completing a number of practical exercises under similar conditions you will encounter in the examination. Richard will also run through the examination process with you so you know what to expect.
